A 1962 prototype spec house

Over a decade ago, I discovered this butterfly roof house while touring Palm Springs. When it became available in 2020, I purchased it, in mostly original condition, with much deferred maintenance. The renovation challenge was to restore its unique aspects and quirks while modernizing all infrastructure. Research revealed the house is one of two with the same floor plan but different rooflines and carport placement, prototype spec houses built by entertainment industry executive Fred Stein, who owned a chain of theaters and was “Chief Barker” (Chairman) of the Variety Club, Hollywood’s children’s charity. The architect is unknown.
